Why I love photographing during the dreamiest time of day (and why you will too).
There’s a reason photographers are obsessed with golden hour — and no, it’s not just because it makes everything look like a scene from a romantic indie film (though that is a bonus).
Golden hour is that soft, glowing light right after sunrise or just before sunset. It’s warm, rich, and full of depth, kind of like the emotions I aim to capture in every session. It's more than just good lighting though. For me, golden hour is a feeling. A little bit wild, a little bit nostalgic, and completely magical.
That Glow Hits Different
Let’s talk light for a second. Golden hour light is diffused, soft, and incredibly flattering. It smooths skin, creates dreamy highlights, and wraps everything in a warm, cinematic glow. There are no harsh shadows or squinty eyes; just pure, golden goodness. Whether we’re dancing barefoot in a field, running through tall grass, or slow dancing by the lake, this light brings everything to life in a way that just feels like a memory.
A Time to Slow Down
As the sun dips lower in the sky, the world slows down. The chaos fades. The light softens. And in that stillness, something shifts. You breathe a little deeper. You hold your person a little closer. You let yourself feel the kind of feelings that can’t be posed or staged. That’s where I find the good stuff. The raw, real, beautifully unscripted moments. This is when I guide you with gentle prompts instead of stiff poses; asking you to walk, run, twirl, kiss, laugh, fall into each other. It’s about creating space for you to be, and letting the light do the rest.
The Vibe Is Always Right
Golden hour works for every kind of session — families, seniors, couples, maternity, you name it. There’s just something about that golden glow that adds emotion and richness that midday light could never touch. It adds richness to fall tones, softness to summer blooms, and a little bit of magic to the in-between seasons. It's when fields look like they’re dipped in honey. When the water shimmers. When everything feels a little more alive.
But Don’t Wait Too Long…
Here’s the thing: golden hour only lasts about 45–60 minutes, and the timing changes depending on the season. That means these dreamy time slots fill up fast. If you want golden hour for your next session, it’s best to reach out early so we can plan the perfect date.
Let’s Catch the Light Together
Whether it’s in a wide open field, by the lake, or on a quiet country road, I’ll guide you every step of the way. You just show up ready to feel, to move, and to soak it all in. Golden hour isn’t just about pretty photos — it’s about making space to feel the moment before it slips away.
Let’s create something beautiful, bathed in golden light. 🌞
